Route 105 (Fort Eustis Boulevard) Bridge Replacement Over CSX Railroad
NXL performed both Surveying and Construction Inspection services for this project that involved the replacement of the existing bridge carrying Route 105 over CSXT. The new three span continuous bridge comprising of cast in place concrete deck composite with steel beams shall bear on new semi-integral abutments and multi-column piers (with crash walls). The Project was directly adjacent to and over active tracks of CSXT. All work on, over and immediately adjacent to CSXT rights of way was to be coordinated with CSXT.
NXL provided surveying services on this project, which included topographic survey and limited bridge situation for a 150’ double span bridge rehabilitation. The project consisted of 500 linear feet of approach on each side of existing bridge. NXL determined the existing right of way, researched underground utilities, and administered Miss Utility Ticket.
NXL also provided Construction Inspection services on Phase III of this project, which involved the replacement of the Route 105 Bridge over the Newport News (Lee Hall) Reservoir. The project consisted of asphalt paving and roadway concrete, as well as placement of Super and Sub Structure concrete bridge over CSX Railroad.
Our inspectors provided administration/management, construction inspection, and materials testing services. Their responsibilities included inspection of completed work, MOT, pavement markings, asphalt paving, E&S control, electrical systems at intersections, concrete testing and inspection, shop drawing review, reinforcing steel inspection and placement, and structural steel inspection. They were also responsible for inspecting the placement of drainage systems, compaction and density roadway, as well as fill testing, asphalt placement and testing, and concrete pavement testing and inspection.
