GRTC Bus Rapid Transit, the PULSE | Design Build
This project is the development of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in the City of Richmond and Henrico County. The corridor begins on Broad Street near Willow Lawn Drive and moves east to 14th Street in the City of Richmond, then extends south on 14th Street to Main Street and continues east on Main Street to Orleans Drive in Rocketts Landing.
The total project corridor is approximately 7.6 miles. This project includes 14 stations total — five median stations and nine curb side stations. The two terminus stations include a single loading platform while the remaining 12 station have facilities for East Bound and West Bound travel.
The BRT route includes a combination of mixed flow, exclusive median running and exclusive curb running BRT operations. NXL was responsible for the Quality Assurance on this project. Our QA Manager and Inspectors monitored the contractor’s QC testing, inspected to ensure compliance with requirements and specifications, and ensured QC testing was performed in accordance with VDOT’s Design-Build guidelines. NXL staff also reviewed Traffic Control Plans and Temporary Traffic Control Work Zones, as well as provided QA testing and inspections of hydraulic cement concrete, asphalt concrete, waterline installation, sewer installation, masonry, structural steel, street lights, traffic signalization, fiber optic, electrical, and numerous items related to construction.
