Springfield Interchange
Springfield, Virginia

The Springfield Interchange is in Fairfax County, Virginia, 10 miles from Washington, D.C. Every day, 430,000 vehicles pass through the Springfield Interchange, where I-95, I-395 and I-495 come together. During a recent two-year study, the interchange logged 179 accidents, making it the most accident-prone section on the 64-mile Capital Beltway. To improve traffic flow, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is rebuilding the interchange to make it safer for commuters and long-distance travelers. The project consists of building more than 50 bridges and widening I-95 to 24 lanes. The new and improved interchange will allow for future growth. Traffic volumes will increase to 500,000 vehicles per day by 2020.

NXL is providing inspection and construction administration services on this project.  NXL’s inspector is in charge of all phases from foundation through super structure on this multi span continuous steel girder bridge project.
